Jasmine Valley Staff

Most of our staff come from a very poor village in Takeo, about an hour from Kep. Under-education is a major problem, and there are very few prospects for many of the young people living there. Jasmine Valley employs, at full pay, untrained folks with very little, or no English language skills. We teach English, as well as train on the job.

Jasmine Valley staff will do all they can to make your stay wonderful. For example, whether you're a resident of Jasmine Valley or not, if our staff see you've arrived hot and sweaty (perhaps after a trek around the mountain), they'll usually greet you with a glass of cold water and a chilled, fragrant flannel. It matters to them, that you are comfortable, happy and safe-in-the-jungle. As a result of working and learning together for an extended period of time, there's very much a family atmosphere.

Of course, given that our staff are learning all the time, there will be occasional mistakes, and moments when some of them struggle to understand new words, accents or requests. Speaking clearly and using simple sentences helps in countries like Cambodia, and pictures and mime can add to the fun of your experience. Bear with them a little; they will certainly do their best to look after you, and if they can't satisfy your request, they'll ask for our help, or call if we're offsite.

Many thanks to our guests, who have enjoyed participating in the on-the-job training of folks less well-off than themselves, and at the same time enjoyed being waited upon by wonderful, respectful, hard-working young Cambodians.
